WATCHING A BELOVED DOG "AGE"

Pinky is 12 plus... its my practice to stop counting after 12 years old. Its too hard to think of the loss or aging of my dogs, so I stop counting at 12.
I lived in a house with Tippy and her puppies for 4 years. When I moved to a smaller apartment, I could only keep two of my five dogs. I was heart broken. I gave Coochie to my nephew, Yoni, because Coochie was as laid back of Yoni. I gave Precious to my Aunt Bronka because she had lost a dog. Blue Beany went to a friend nearby, Each of the dogs loved their new homes... and they changed with their new owners.
Coochie got even more laid back and sits on a lap 24/7. Bronka likes to hold Precious across her chest. As the tiniest one of the dogs, sitting across a comfortable chest is a great pillow. Blue beany became a JAP! This was difficult for me. I thought of my five dogs as a rock n roll band with an attitide. Seeing one of them all girlied up was a bit too much for me.
I kept Pinky. She was the most nervous of my dogs. I worried about her and thought she would have a hard time without alot of attention. In truth, it is Pinky who has watched over me for all these years.
In the last year, last few months I see her age. It is difficult to see a beloved dog slow down. I am seeing her change more radically than ever before and I keep holding her close.
I find myself saying "dont' go .. I am not ready...

TIPPY'S ORANGE RIBBON

This orange ribbon with the word "Tippy" has been trademarked. The purpose of the non profit, currently being formed, is to raise money to build an organization whose sole purpose will be to recover and rescue animals during catastrophic situations. Your donation will be used to save the lives of animals by creating a strategy to network with "animal lovers" throughout the United States.

TIPPY SAYS "OUTLAW PUPPY MILLS"

I am one of the lucky ones.. my dogs have all been healthy. I am saddened when I find, foster and help rescue animals. The world has come to realize the significant number of dog/ animal lovers in this counrty.
Many, like me, grew up being heavily involved in other movements. Some thrity years ago, millions of us marched on Washington for issues we cared about. I spent years working with the women's movement.
There are talented people who have organizing skills from current and prior experiences. If you are interested and know a good person who loves animals and wants to work on a focused issue, please let me know. I am willing to organize an effort on one issue- puppy mills, in New York and New Jersey, in order to put laws on the books.
With all the scandals and mistakes of both parties, it is the right time to get someone's attention. Hopefully we can elect an independent and open minded candidate who is humane and willing to back our legislation.

LETS MAKE NEW YORK THE FIRST "NO PUPPY MILL" STATE

In every township, every city and every state, dog lovers work tirelessly saving homeless, abandoned and abused dogs. Individuals, rescue groups and shelters do everything possible to save a single "dogs" life.
Efforts to save a single dog often involve dozens of individuals, vets and fundraising efforts. Its difficult and sometimes unimageable to think of dogs suffering and of those not being saved.
Indivuals and groups work to prosecute single abusers. These efforts while extremely important have not eliminated the problems. It is time to try to make one issue in one state a focus of our efforts.
We have Senatorial and Gubernatorial elections coming in two years. We have an American public disgusted with both the Democrats and the Republicans. Most of us know the race will concentrate on Iraq and the threat of terrorism. We also know "blame" will be a huge part of the debate.
According to older statistics, there are 70 million households with dogs and some 90 million with cats. If these numbers are even close to being correct, it means the "animal vote" is potentially the single largest vote in America.
Candidates work hard for the various voting blocks which constitute small percentages of the population. This year the "voting blocks" are crucial to every candidates. Little separates the parties.
I believe due to lack of differentiation between both parties a new voice will be welcomed. I also believe it is time to make our voice heard. Having a "focus" and a plan is necessary for a successful voice.
My personal focus is to take one issue- puppy mills and organize in one state. New York is both a visible state and has visible candidates. I invite anyone living in all neighboring states and who are intersted in attending the first organizing meeting to contact me at www.thetippystory.com.
The first meeting will take place in October and whoever writes to me is welcome. Each person coming to the meeting represents a network of other people and the other people have other networks. I plan on using the internet and a tightly focused plan to build a "voice" to present to the candidates as soon as possible.
We need to develop a plan for legislating all puppy mails out of New York. We need to send the meessage if you are running a puppy mill you go DIRECTLY TO JAIL.
We must give the candidates a simple platform- outlaw the puppy mills, prosecute the offenders, and require the formal registration of anyone breeding puppies. The standard of registration and the requirement of registration will go far is eliminating one problem.
I have been a social activist since the womens movement some 25- 30 years ago. I am committed and passionate about making a better world for the animals we love. I need help to make this happen. I need a core group of women willing to meet once to develop the platform. I can think of nothing as important to me personally as doing a project like this one.
The stragety and plans we deveolop for one state can subsequently be used in others. For my part, I want to force the candidates to make NEW YORK A NO PUPPY MILL STATE. Please join me in planning this platform and making it visible.

5 Maltese puppies- Tippy did good

On July 14,1993, Tippy gave birth to 5 puppies. They were so tiny and each one looked like a little mouse. There were 4 girls and one boy. In order to know who was who, I put color tape on their tails. Pinky was the eldest, black, soon to be called little man, was second, blue, aka, blue beany was third, rec, later named coochie, and green , later named elouise, eli was the last one.
Tippy was an unbelievable mom. The pups stayed close to her and she was constantly kissing each dog. She watched them and kept all of them close to her. If one of the dogs started to go a little too far, she used her nose to push the dog closer. I took thousands of pictures and lots of film.
I wanted to just spend the whole day watching the pups. There were so cute and moved so funny. The little puppies were rolling on top of and ynder each other. They kissed each other all the time.
Tippy's second book, The Tippy Family Story, is about the puppies growing up. Tippy has written about 6 chapters. My pictures with her story will be great.

HURRICANE KATRINA TAUGHT US EVACUATION PLANS ARE NEEDED FOR ANIMALS TOO

It was one year ago people being evacuated from Hurricane Katrina were told to leave their family pets at home. There are no nummbers regarding the thousands of animals who died as a result of "NO EVACUATION PLANS FOR DOMESTIC ANIMALS".
We need a FEMA for animals. There needs to be a way to protect all the animals in situations like Katrina.
