LETS MAKE NEW YORK THE FIRST "NO PUPPY MILL" STATE
In every township, every city and every state, dog lovers work tirelessly saving homeless, abandoned and abused dogs. Individuals, rescue groups and shelters do everything possible to save a single "dogs" life.
Efforts to save a single dog often involve dozens of individuals, vets and fundraising efforts. Its difficult and sometimes unimageable to think of dogs suffering and of those not being saved.
Indivuals and groups work to prosecute single abusers. These efforts while extremely important have not eliminated the problems. It is time to try to make one issue in one state a focus of our efforts.
We have Senatorial and Gubernatorial elections coming in two years. We have an American public disgusted with both the Democrats and the Republicans. Most of us know the race will concentrate on Iraq and the threat of terrorism. We also know "blame" will be a huge part of the debate.
According to older statistics, there are 70 million households with dogs and some 90 million with cats. If these numbers are even close to being correct, it means the "animal vote" is potentially the single largest vote in America.
Candidates work hard for the various voting blocks which constitute small percentages of the population. This year the "voting blocks" are crucial to every candidates. Little separates the parties.
I believe due to lack of differentiation between both parties a new voice will be welcomed. I also believe it is time to make our voice heard. Having a "focus" and a plan is necessary for a successful voice.
My personal focus is to take one issue- puppy mills and organize in one state. New York is both a visible state and has visible candidates. I invite anyone living in all neighboring states and who are intersted in attending the first organizing meeting to contact me at www.thetippystory.com.
The first meeting will take place in October and whoever writes to me is welcome. Each person coming to the meeting represents a network of other people and the other people have other networks. I plan on using the internet and a tightly focused plan to build a "voice" to present to the candidates as soon as possible.
We need to develop a plan for legislating all puppy mails out of New York. We need to send the meessage if you are running a puppy mill you go DIRECTLY TO JAIL.
We must give the candidates a simple platform- outlaw the puppy mills, prosecute the offenders, and require the formal registration of anyone breeding puppies. The standard of registration and the requirement of registration will go far is eliminating one problem.
I have been a social activist since the womens movement some 25- 30 years ago. I am committed and passionate about making a better world for the animals we love. I need help to make this happen. I need a core group of women willing to meet once to develop the platform. I can think of nothing as important to me personally as doing a project like this one.
The stragety and plans we deveolop for one state can subsequently be used in others. For my part, I want to force the candidates to make NEW YORK A NO PUPPY MILL STATE. Please join me in planning this platform and making it visible.
